I'm trying to find some resources on teaching basic bellydance steps to girls ages 10-14. Does anyone know of any resources/methods that work well? We're learning some basic moves as part of a lesson on MidEast music and dance in our music classes. Thanks!

Re: Bellydance for adolescent girls
Thu, August 11, 2005 - 2:05 PMYou might want to invest in a good video that shows historical footage of mideast dancers. I have one which of course I can't remember the name of right now that focuses on egyptian ghawazee dancers past and present. You might also contact Elizabeth Strong (she's on tribe somewhere) or Hannah Kozlowski @ hannah@hannahdance.com. Both are excellent dancers who know a lot about the history of where different moves originated and know traditional songs in Arabic, turkish, etc. that might be fun for your class to learn...
Good luck!

Fri, October 19, 2007 - 6:38 PMaaaaaagh god!!!!!!! I WISH you lived in Portland!!!!! My friend Sofia is heading what is called a SEEDs program, a program she did herself when she was younger in Santa Fe that encourages self- empowerment for young women through dance. She is such a trooper, and as far as i know anyone can start up a SEEDs program through the organization. It will pay for itself and is a huge reward. She is looking for girls of that age, below 16 years old. If you'd like to get a hold of her, email her at
seedsofeuphoria@yahoo.com
tell her Carlisa said to get in contact with her... good luck!!!
